We Outfit the Trucks That Keep the Triangle Running.

One shop in Hillsborough, NC handling commercial van buildouts, police interceptor conversions, and NC-compliant safety lighting — since 2016.

37 organized trucks. 70-vehicle fleet completed in a single season. That's what the work looks like when it's done right.

Purcell's Custom Upfitting serves HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and construction contractors across the Triangle, along with municipal and county law enforcement agencies that need a shop with a proven record before they sign a contract. We do commercial fleet upfitting, law enforcement and emergency vehicle conversions, and amber safety lighting installation — all under one roof, all hands-on, all out of our Hillsborough shop.

If you're comparing upfitters in the Raleigh area, the difference is straightforward: most shops specialize in one category. We've been doing all three since 2016.

Safety & Hazard Lighting

Amber LED and strobe lighting for construction, engineering, and public works vehicles — with configurations installed to North Carolina G.S. (919) 730-0542 spec. We've been doing this since the first install that started the business, and we know exactly where the lights go, how they have to be wired, and what visible-from-500-feet actually means on a job site. If your crew is on the road or working adjacent to traffic, we'll make sure every vehicle is compliant before it leaves the shop.

Commercial Fleet Upfitting

Custom interior buildouts for trade vans and work trucks — shelving, drawers, toolboxes, pipe racks, ladder racks, and cargo partitions configured for how your crew actually works. We've built out fleets for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors across the Triangle, including a 70-vehicle HVAC fleet completed within a single seasonal cycle.

Law Enforcement & Emergency Vehicle Upfitting

Full interceptor conversions for municipal and county agencies — light bars, sirens, radios, push bumpers, prisoner cages, and seating installed to spec. We're active on the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association Vehicle Equipment and Upfitting Procurement Program portal, which means we're already positioned for agencies running formal procurement.

Common Questions About Vehicle Upfitting in the Triangle

  • Do you handle both commercial fleet upfitting and law enforcement vehicle conversions?

Yes. We do commercial van and truck buildouts for trade contractors, full interceptor conversions for law enforcement agencies, and NC-compliant safety lighting for construction and engineering vehicles — all from our Hillsborough shop. Most upfitters focus on one category. We've been doing all three since 2016.

  • Can you handle a large fleet, or do you work mainly with single vehicles?

We work across the range. We've completed a 70-vehicle fleet buildout within a single season, and we also build out individual vehicles for smaller contractors. If you're managing a fleet on a seasonal schedule, we can discuss a timeline that works with your operation.

  • Are you set up to work with county or municipal law enforcement agencies that use a formal procurement process?

Yes. We're active on the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association Vehicle Equipment and Upfitting Procurement Program portal, which positions us for agencies that require a vetted vendor before awarding contracts.

  • What does HVAC van setup near Raleigh NC typically include?

A standard HVAC van buildout includes shelving and drawer units sized for your parts inventory, secure toolbox mounting, pipe racks, and cargo partitions to keep the van organized and your crew efficient. The exact configuration depends on your van model and how your team works — we build to your spec, not a generic template.

  • Do you serve customers outside of Hillsborough?

Our shop is in Hillsborough, and we regularly work with customers from Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Roxboro. For customers further out, we work with vehicles brought directly to our shop — including out-of-state customers when the project warrants it.
